Pink Floyd The Wall is a 1982 British live action/adult animated surrealist musical drama film directed by Alan Parker, based on Pink Floyd's 1979 album The Wall. The screenplay was written by Pink Floyd vocalist and bassist Roger Waters.

What does Pink Floyd stand for?
The name Pink Floyd was created on the spur of a moment by Syd Barrett, when another band, also called the Tea Set, was to perform at one of their gigs. The name came from two blues musicians in Barrett's record collection; Pink Anderson and Floyd Council. Syd Barret, Nick Mason, Rick Wright and Roger Waters, 1967.

However, it was with The Final Cut that their relationship unravelled for good. Gilmour concluded that Waters's ego had finally got the better of him, and that his bandmate was determined to make a glorified solo record. The movie is surprisingly violent and bloody, but most of the violence is animated. There are several shots of soldiers, most of them dead, the rest of them dying. There are many instances of violence and gore stemming from the film's Nazi and war themes. A teacher beats students with a paddle.
As they watched, they felt the film becoming more and more depressing, and on the spur of the moment decided that "Hey You" would be cut, both to lighten the tone, and because it was running too long, in addition to its duplicating shots already used in other songs.
