Realizing that what Aladdin says is true and that he's still “second best”, Jafar, consumed by his hunger for power, uses his final wish to become an all-powerful genie, in an attempt to rule the whole universe.
Also he makes a non-wish at 38:46 when he tricks the genie into taking him out of the cave. For the sake of completeness, Jafar's three wishes are: "I wish to rule on high, a sultan!" - 1:07:45. "I wish to be the most powerful sorceror in the world!!" - 1:09:00.

Iago has a redemption arc in which he sacrifices himself for Aladdin and ends up destroying Jafar's lamp, killing Jafar. Then, in Disney's Hercules the animated series, the now-dead Jafar meets Hades and they team up to defeat Hercules and Aladdin by turning them on one another.

Jafar reads aloud from the ancient scroll he so cleverly doctored, and proclaims that now he must become Jasmine's husband, and – most importantly – the next sultan! Jasmine and the Sultan try to stop Jafar, but to no avail, for Jafar now holds the power of the lamp.
Sadly, the biggest issue with Return of Jafar is how rushed and unfocused it is, as it would rather focus more on Iago trying to make amends with Aladdin and the gang than on Jafar plotting his master plan to rule all of Agrabah.
He also was depicted as laughing excessively and in a deranged manner shortly after banishing Aladdin to the North Pole, suggesting that Jafar was also insane and suffered from hysteria. Jafar displays narcissistic tendencies, his most obvious ones being his obsessive desire for power and sense of entitlement.
