The saddest moment in The Hobbit is certainly the death of Thorin. I suppose the saddest line is: Already behind him among the goblin dead lay many men and many dwarves, and many a fair elf that should have lived yet long ages merrily in the wood.

Who dies at the end of the Hobbit trilogy?
Thorin, Fili, and Kili died during the Battle of the Five Armies, which took place at the end of The Hobbit in the year 2941 of the Third Age. Thorin was buried with the Arkenstone and the sword Orcrist.
Thorin thought he did when he pushed Azog under the ice, but Azog stabbed his foot and jumped up above Thorin. After holding back Azog, Thorin gave in and was mortally wounded. Mortally wounded during the battle of Fire Armies. In the book, it was by the lances of Bolg's bodyguard trying to get at Bolg.
After the death of Thorin in the Battle of Five Armies, Dain becomes King under the Mountain. He redeems the Arkenstone from Bard with a fourteenth of the treasure, which is used to re-establish Dale. Over the next three years, Bard rebuilds the city of Dale and becomes its ruler. The city begins to prosper again.
Their deaths and Thorin's did not end Durin's line, although did end the branch which had Thror, Thrain, and Thorin Oakenshield. Thorin's cousin, Dain Ironfoot, became King after Thorin's death. Dain's son, Thorin Stonehelm, became King after Dain died in the Battle of Dale. The line continued on after that.
The remaining six living The Hobbit dwarves (Bifur, Bofur, Nori, Dori, Bombur and Dwalin) are mostly unaccounted for by Tolkien, but fans can speculate on their movements during The Lord of the Rings.

Alfrid Lickspittle is a major antagonist in Peter Jackson's The Hobbit trilogy, being a major antagonist in both The Desolation of Smaug and The Battle of the Five Armies. He is an extremely cowardly man of Lake-town, and the assistant deputy and councilor of the Master of Laketown.
Why did Thorin go crazy? Thorin fell victim to the sickness of greed. Dwarves are known for being greedy and proud, and when he realized the treasure of Erebor was his, including the Arkenstone, he became ill with Dragon Sickness. He began to value his wealth more than his friends, family, and own safety.
Gimli was born in the Ered Luin in the Third Age, son of Glóin. Gimli had wanted to accompany his father on the quest to reclaim Erebor, but at age 62 he was deemed too young. He was a remote descendant of Durin the Deathless, chief of the Seven Fathers of the Dwarves and ancestor of the Longbeards.
In the Third Age, the more easily accessible seams of mithril were exhausted, and the Dwarves dug deeper until they disturbed a Balrog, a powerful fire-demon. It killed King Durin VI, acquiring the name Durin's Bane, and then Náin I, his son. The Dwarves abandoned Khazad-dûm and fled into Wilderland.
Gimli is the son of Glóin who is introduced in The Hobbit as a member of Thorin Oakenshield's company, also being one of his four third cousins. Thorin himself is a direct descendant of Durin I, even becoming the King of Durin's Folk in his lifetime.
With Thorin's death in the battle, Dáin became King of Durin's Folk and King under the Mountain, the first not of the main line. After the battle, Dáin thanked the Great Eagles for their timely intervention, crowning their chief with gold and swearing the Dwarves to everlasting friendship with them.
Immediately following the events of The Hobbit, the surviving Dwarves remained in their newly reclaimed kingdom under the leadership of Thorin's cousin, Dáin II Ironfoot.
Thorin is portrayed by Richard Armitage and Bilbo is portrayed by Martin Freeman. Fans have called them "Thilbo," but it is not canon; however this relationship is platonic in this series. An entire page was dedicated to their relationship in The Battle of the Five Armies movie guide.
