Ed Harris' man represents Adam. When he's puking in the bathroom, we quickly see an injury right where his rib would be. In the next scene, his wife (Michelle Pfeiffer), representing Eve, shows up.
Based on my conversation with Aronofsky, and others he's had, this is what we know about “mother!”: According to the Bible, before God created Man, there was Paradise. Lawrence is Gaia, or Mother Earth, defending the living, breathing organism she has built into a perfect home.
Her death can be taken as an allegory for the destruction of our planet (Mother Earth,) caused by the emission of fossil fuels. Lawrence's character as a metaphor for Mother Earth is further solidified throughout the film, as mother gets overwhelmed frequently and begins touching the walls of her home.

Javier Bardem stars as Him, a famous poet with writers' block - a character supposed to represent God, to Lawrence's Mother Earth. Wiig plays Him's publicist; and with the character's name listed as Herald, it seems she could symbolise a prophet enlisted to spread news.
However, Cruise is intercepted by Adrian (Joseph Fiennes), The Mother's other dangerous ex who was previously thought to be dead, and just so happens to be Zoe's biological father.

Much of the film takes place in beautiful snow-covered landscapes. It's an icy, mysterious setting that aptly conveys the film's message. In the film, we are in Alaska, but the scenes were really shot in Canada, in the western province of British Columbia.
One day, a stranger comes to their house, who appears to be an admirer of the poet's work who wished to meet him. The stranger, whom we know as Man (Ed Harris), is allowed to stay, despite Mother's objections, but the guest is soon followed first by his wife, Woman (Michelle Pfeiffer), and then by their children.

Drawing on stories and symbols from the Bible, Victorian literature and even The Giving Tree, mother! is an allegory for climate change told from the point of view of Mother Earth herself. Jennifer Lawrence plays a women who serves as both muse and housewife to a cranky writer (Javier Bardem).
However, while The Mother hoped she had killed her other ex-boyfriend (and arms dealer) Lovell years before by setting him on fire, she's not that surprised when he turns up again, crashes into the car she's in, shoots FBI agent William Cruise in the head and grabs Zoe at gunpoint.
Will there be a The Mother 2? Netflix has yet to confirm if there will be a sequel, but Jennifer Lopez and the team behind The Mother are thinking about it. Not much is known in regards to a sequel, except a potential title: “I think it would be The Daughter,” Lopez told Variety at the movie's premiere.
The fire crystal is what brings the house and the mother back to life, meaning that God has some control and level of ownership over nature, but he cannot fully control it even though he wishes he could. God has to belittle her power because, without her, his creations cannot live.
It's a small role, representing a biblical “herald” (someone who makes public proclamation), who Aronofsky comedically depicts as a literary publicist. She also ends up being caught in the film's final-act madness, too, so if you've ever wanted to see Kristen Wiig blow somebody's head off, Mother! is the movie for you.
