Disney CEO Bob Iger first announced Toy Story 5 in February 2023 alongside sequels to the Walt Disney Animation Studios films Frozen II and Zootopia.

While a sequel was announced back in February 2023 by Bob Iger, the movie is still not even close to being released, but we are happy to say that we finally have an official release date for the upcoming Toy Story 5 movie, which is set for a June 19, 2026 release.

However, Peter Docter, a Pixar director and one of the story writers of Toy Story 2, revealed that the theory is actually false (via ET Online). Docter explained that he does have a backstory for Jessie, but he's not willing to reveal what it is just yet.

Tim Allen appeared on The Tonight Show and, during his interview, confirmed that Disney contacted him and Tom Hanks about reprising their iconic roles as Buzz and Woody for “Toy Story 5”. According to Allen, “one of the creators of the original series” is in charge of the new script.
On a Disney earnings call in April 2024, Bob Iger announced that Toy Story 5 had received a release date and would be arriving to theaters on June 19, 2026. The Disney release calendar does tend to change, however, so we could see that date move in the coming years.
Toy Story 5 may also see the return of Andy as he graduates from college and goes to the carnival where Woody lives to celebrate and see him by chance, as the carnival travels from place to place.

Buzz's relationship with Jessie is only hinted at the end of Toy Story 2 when Buzz became instantly lovestruck with her looks and her adventurous personality. Jessie immediately returns his compliments by describing him as the sweetest space toy she has ever met.
Brooks Wentworth (Pierson Fode) is Jessie's new boyfriend who later becomes Jessie's fiancé. He got a job in Africa and asked Jessie to get married as soon as possible.
In Toy Story 2, Buzz continued to remain good friends with Bo. Before leaving to go rescue Woody from Al McWhiggin, Bo gives Buzz a kiss on the cheek for Woody, which Buzz awkwardly says he wasn't sure it would feel the same giving Woody the kiss.
During the past four Toy Story movies, the Pixar universe has established that a toy's purpose is to be played with in order to bring children joy. This is the very reason Woody decided to leave Bonnie in the first place; he wasn't able to directly give Bonnie joy, because she wasn't playing with him.
