Paz Socorro is Spider's mom after a romantic relationship with Quaritch led to her getting pregnant. She gave birth to Spider, whose birth name is Miles (just like his father), in 2154. However, Paz Socorro died shortly after that in combat during Avatar's finale.

This allows her to channel Eywa (or the Force, in Anakin's case) and perform amazing feats. Both also receive visions that may lead them down a path of fear and uncertainty.
Spider thus exists in a nebulous space when it comes to his identity. He's the offspring of the worst of mankind and wishes to resist his background, yet he cannot completely participate in the culture he admires and, in the case of his crush on Kiri, adores.
Spider grew up around the Na'vi, spending time with Norm and Max in the labs and bonding with Jake and Neytiri's kids. While Jake believes Neytiri will always see him as “an alien”, their kids (Neteyam, Lo'ak, Tuk, and Kiri, the latter of whom they adopted) see him as a cousin, if not a brother.
The sequel introduced us to the extended Sully family, but they'll be missing a member in the third movie, as Neteyam (Jamie Flatters) was shot and killed during The Way of Water's dramatic climax.
Earlier in the film, Kiri is diagnosed with epilepsy after having a seizure underwater while at the Soul Tree, and Jake tells her not to bond with it again. However, that does not mean she is barred from bonding with all living things.
What we do know is that Grace's last moments of consciousness in Avatar are tied to a Tree of Souls.
