Maleficent is a well known villain in sleeping beauty. Little do most people know, she wasn't always like this. In the earliest versions of the story, Maleficent was married to the King who cheats on her with the younger princess Talia.

However, the fact is she's wicked, spiteful, genocidal, warmongering, cunning, selfish, and is driven only by racism and hatred towards the Moors, which in turn leads to her aggression towards the fairies.

Who was Maleficent before she was evil?
We all know Maleficent's evil side. The first Maleficent movie, however, showed us Maleficent's good side. Maleficent used to be a powerful fairy living in the Moors, a magical forest realm bordering a human kingdom. As a young girl, Maleficent meets and falls in love with a Scottish human peasant boy named Stefan.
Later, Stefan betrays Maleficent and steals her wings so he could claim that he killed her and become king. After the painful loss of her wings, Maleficent becomes enraged over his treachery, and as her heart of gold turns to stone, she becomes the evilest magical being in the land.
She is represented as an evil fairy and the self-proclaimed "Mistress of All Evil" who, after not being invited to a christening, curses the infant Princess Aurora to "prick her finger on the spindle of a spinning wheel and die" before the sun sets on Aurora's sixteenth birthday.
Queen Ingrith attempts to provoke Maleficent by giving her iron which can kill her, mentioning the curse she had put on Aurora, and accusing her of killing men that had went into Moors at night in which they did not return. Maleficent then loses her temper and seemingly curses King John into an eternal slumber.
After saving his life, Diaval promises Maleficent he will be her humble servant as a gratitude. Maleficent and Diaval have been together for twenty-one years now.
Meanwhile, Aurora grows disillusioned with being an Ulstead noblewoman but is happy that the Moor denizens are invited to the royal wedding. Aurora discovers that Ingrith hates all Moor fairy folk, bitterly resenting their prosperity during a time when her kingdom had suffered and blaming them for her brother's death.
When the meeting ends in disaster, Maleficent is blamed for a curse on the King. She flies away and is shot down by an iron bullet meant to kill her. She's rescued from a watery grave by Conall (Chiwetel Ejiofor), a creature much like herself.
Maleficent and Aurora have a close relationship, like a mother-daughter relationship. Even after learning Maleficent's identity and going away from her, after realizing that her father, Stefan, does not show any love or genuine care for her, Aurora sees Maleficent as her fairy godmother.
Queen Ingrith is a worthy adversary to the dark fairy Maleficent, with an evil plan to divide humans and fairies forever. She was portrayed by Michelle Pfeiffer.
With her life suddenly endangered, Gothel kidnaps the infant, imprisoning the princess in an isolated tower for eighteen years while posing as her mother to exploit her powers. Mother Gothel as she appears in Disney's Tangled.
She tearfully apologizes to her sleeping goddaughter and gives her a farewell kiss on the forehead. However, just before she can walk away, a miracle happens: Aurora wakes up. Maleficent's strong and genuine motherly love for Aurora was enough to break the curse that she herself had cast.
Determined to prevent this, three good fairies raise Aurora as a peasant in order to protect her, patiently awaiting her sixteenth birthday — the day the spell can only be broken by a kiss from her true love, Prince Phillip.
Emma immediately does some research and uncovers the truth that the woman, Lilith "Lily" Page, is not only Maleficent's daughter, but was once the childhood friend of Emma, who also discovers that fate has controlled her life down to the finest detail, which includes influencing the one friend she ever had.
On Maleficent's sixteenth birthday, Stefan kissed her. However, after some period of time after this, he didn't come to see Maleficent. Stefan later betrayed her and stole her wings, so he would be able to become the new king. Stefan later married Leila, Henry's daughter, and she became his wife and queen.
When you consider that purple is often associated with power, nobility, luxury and ambition, it makes sense. Those characteristics are certainly reflected in characters like Maleficent from Sleeping Beauty, Dr.
