Lady Tremaine (also commonly known as the "Wicked Stepmother" or "Evil Stepmother") is the main antagonist of Disney's 1950 animated feature film, Cinderella. As the cold-hearted stepmother of Cinderella, Lady Tremaine does not harm her stepdaughter physically.
Anastasia and Drizella may envy cinderella's beauty, but Lady Tremaine envies something else. She envies the love that Cinderella's father had for her, and she hates Cinderella because she's a reminder that her husband had a life and a wife before Lady Tremaine.
Lady Tremaine treats Cinderella, her step-daughter, like a scullery maid and focuses all of her attention on her own two daughters, Anastasia and Drizella. She is based on The Wicked Stepmother character from the original fairytale by Charles Perrault. Lady Tremaine was animated by Frank Thomas.

After deciding that his dearly beloved daughter needs a mother's care, Cinderella's father marries Lady Tremaine, a proud and confident woman with two daughters from her first marriage, Drizella and Anastasia.
When Rapunzel returns to her family, she finds that they have moved on without her, with her husband marrying a woman whose daughter is named Ella. While technically Rapunzel was Marcus's first wife, she ends up becoming Cinderella's stepmother after her escape.
In some stories, Cinderella's real name was Ella, and because she would always lie in cinders, her stepfamily would call her Cinderella. However, in the Disney film, "Cinderella" is truly her name by birth.

In this tale, a princess named Zellandine falls in love with a man named Troylus. Her father sends him to perform tasks to prove himself worthy of her, and while he is gone, Zellandine falls into an enchanted sleep. Troylus finds her and rescues her after waking her up with a kiss.
Cinderella marries the prince and forgives her two stepsisters, then marrying them off to two wealthy noblemen of the court. They all lived happily ever after. The first moral of the story is that beauty is a treasure, but graciousness is priceless.
In the end, when Cinderella forgives her stepsisters, she takes them to the castle with her and helps them find husbands, rather than leave them behind to punish them.
In the oldest versions of the story, the slightly more sinister Cinderella actually kills her first stepmother so her father will marry the housekeeper instead. Guess she wasn't banking on the housekeeper's six daughters moving in or that never-ending chore list.
Hearing Cinderella humming the waltz from the ball, Lady Tremaine realizes the truth and locks Cinderella in her attic bedroom. While the stepsisters unsuccessfully try on the slipper, Jaq and Gus steal the key back from Lady Tremaine.
