Ultimately, both Talia and Dent are the only villains which were killed by Batman himself. His alias "Harvey Two-Face" was never adopted by himself, it was only mentioned by Gordon.

He is aware of Batman's true identity. Harvey Dent / Two-Face: Having spent 12 years in Arkham Asylum, Harvey Dent has been treated by Doctor Wolper for three years and his face has been repaired with plastic surgery. Dent's doctor gives him a clean bill of mental health, but he is still Two-Face in his mind.
Batman then laments that by turning Dent into Two-Face he won because if the city ever finds out that Dent was a murderer the hope he inspired will be lost and the criminal he put away as DA will be released. So Batman decides that he'll take the blame for Two-Face's murders and have Gordon declare him an outlaw.
The Joker knew that Harvey Dent wasn't the Batman. Nobody in their sane mind would admit to such an obvious cop out. That admission made the Joker realize that Harvey Dent was the weakest link of the three champions of Gotham City. (Batman, Gordon, and Dent) That's why Joker targets him and turns him into Two-Face.

While there's no doubt that the Joker tricked Batman into choosing who would die and thus lied about where Rachel was, there's another reason why the Joker had Batman save Harvey Dent.

Who picked up Harvey Dent in The Dark Knight?
The Joker reveals it was a cop on Sal Maroni's payroll that kidnapped Dent, and claims that, depending on the current time, Dent could be in one spot, or several. Gordon, in no mood to play games, leaves the room, letting Batman take over the interrogation. Batman batters the Joker, who simply mocks him the whole time.
Aaron Eckhart expressed enthusiasm in returning for a sequel if asked, although he later stated Nolan verified that his character, Harvey Dent / Two-Face, was dead, and only archive footage of Eckhart from The Dark Knight appears in the film.
Dent would beat his son based on the flip of a coin, heads he would beat Harvey, tails he wouldn't. Because the coin was double headed, Harvey would always be beaten. The trauma Harvey received from his father's constant abuse fueled the inner torment that eventually turns him into Two-Face.

She explains in the letter that because she loves Harvey and thinks that Bruce will not be able to give up his life as Batman, she is going to marry Harvey (but that she will always love Bruce and will remain his friend).
He knew Jason was killing people, and Batman couldn't live with the shame of knowing that he had unintentionally created a deadlier version of Joe Chill. This explains the tragedy of what kept Batman away but also highlights his own selfishness and irresponsibility.
Alfred burns the letter because it's the kindest thing to do. Already grieving for his lost love, learning that Rachel planned to ditch him for Harvey Dent would offer no solace to Bruce, and only deepen his depression.

Sal Moroni, known as "Boss" Moroni, was a mob boss who was put on trial for an unknown crime, during which, he threw acid at Harvey Dent which Batman was unable to prevent, scarring him, and creating the second personality, Two-Face.
Harvey became Two-Face due to a combination of Maroni's scarring, untreated mental illness, marital stress and his own personal choices. But one has to wonder if Batman and Gordon ever lay awake at night haunted by the role they played in Harvey's downfall.
Rivalries. Over the years, Two-Face had many rivalries with other DC characters, especially the following: Batman -- Although it was the crime lord's fault, Dent had blamed Batman for his facial scarring. He and the Batman had fought each other in over 50 issues of Batman and Detective Comics.
After his death, he became incredibly charismatic: The people of Gotham looked up to his legacy and for what he was believed to have stood for. Batman decided that Harvey Dent was the hero of Gotham, not him, showing that he knew that Dent would appeal to the people as the fallen idol.
