In order to protect Batman, Jason Todd aka Red Hood finally achieves a goal he set before he even became Robin: stealing the wheels off the Batmobile. Out of all the members of the Bat-family, none have had a more contentious relationship with Batman than Red Hood.
Jason remained dead for six months, his legacy haunting Batman. However, when the evil-alternate reality Superman known as Superboy-Prime punched reality itself, the timeline stuttered, and Jason was restored to life.
Bruce Wayne sees to it that Todd is placed in a school for troubled youths, which turns out to be Ma Gunn's School for Crime. Jason earns the Robin mantle a short while later by helping Batman apprehend the gang of thieves. However, Todd does not wear the Robin costume until completing six months of training.
His parents, Willis Todd and Sheila Haywood, separated shortly after his birth. Jason was raised by his father and his wife, Catherine. However, Willis was a low-level crook in Gotham who was presumed dead following an encounter with Two-Face, while Catherine eventually passed away from illness.

How long was Jason Todd tortured?
Jason was strong, held onto the belief that Batman was out there looking for him, and, would soon find him. However, Joker started to break down Jason's will when he showed him a photo of Batman with the new Robin, Tim Drake. The abuse continued for six months, and Joker even let other Arkham inmates beat Jason.
Internally, he knew why: He didn't want to confront the monster Jason had become. The young man he had taken off the streets had been twisted up into perversion of everything Batman stood for. He had in essence become something just as bad, if not worse, than Joe Chill.
In the pre-Crisis on Infinite Earths continuity, the maturing Dick Grayson grows weary of his role as Batman's young sidekick. He renames himself Nightwing, recalling his adventure in the Kryptonian city of Kandor, where he and Batman meet the local hero of the same name.
Robin did not become the Joker. The second Robin in the animated series, Tim Drake, was kidnapped by the Joker, tortured, and turned into a sidekick/pet of the Joker called Joker Junior. Batman rescued him, but he was so traumatized that he quit being Robin.
Traumatized, Batman takes Jason and Sheila's remains to Gotham and holds a burial with Alfred Pennyworth, Commissioner James Gordon, and Barbara Gordon. Batman blames himself for Jason's death and resolves to carry on alone, rejecting Alfred's suggestion to involve Dick Grayson, the first Robin.
On Friday the 13th, the counselors hired to work there are killed off one by one. The killer: Pamela Sue Voorhees, whose 11-year-old son, Jason, allegedly drowned while swimming at the camp in 1957.

Bruce tried to reform Jason by submitting him to treatment at Arkham Asylum under an alias. It was then revealed that Jason is still sane, just willing to do what Batman refused to. He was being transferred to Blackgate Prison when he managed to escape.
Before Batman could get to their location, Joker departed, trapped Jason inside the warehouse, with a bomb the Joker had set up exploding just as the Dark Knight arrived on the scene. Jason perished instantly.
The face-off happens in Batman #138 by Chip Zdarsky, Jorge Jimenez, Tomeu Morey, and Clayton Cowles. After having a full-blown fight with the Bat-Family, Batman ends up kidnapping Jason, bringing him back to Bruce's new apartment where Batman puts Jason through a machine that alters his brain.

Robin the Boy Wonder was actually Dick Grayson, the youngest of a family of circus aerialists, who witnessed his mother and father plunging to their deaths from a sabotaged trapeze. This murder was also observed by wealthy socialite Bruce Wayne.
While he had finally forgiven Batman and dedicated his life to once again protect the innocent in Gotham City, Jason's continued willingness to kill criminals would forever be a delicate aspect in his otherwise repaired relationship with his mentor.

According to the Arkham Knight—Genesis tie-in comic, Jason is 15 when he meets Bruce. When he's trapped by the Joker before the events of Arkham Asylum, Jason is still a minor, not yet 18. His age is probably about 20-22 during the events of Arkham Knight.
Jason revealed that during the torture, Joker had convinced him to hate Batman for giving up and abandoning him only after six months while Joker was showing him "tough love" and that it was Batman whom he should truly hate.
After returning to life, Jason Todd commits a number of horrific actions as the Red Hood before transitioning from a villain to an anti-hero. He kills a number of villains as a way of proving Batman's tactics are not effective, with his ultimate goal being to murder the Joker.
