The reason Eric left Bon Temps and fled to Sweden in the first place was because he was so devastated by the death of his sister (and lover) Nora. She succumbed to Hep-V in his arms — perhaps he wishes to join her by dying of the same disease.
No matter what Bill did to Sookie, her friends, or her family he always ended up professing his love for her. Every time he did something that didn't have the best outlook he always had a greater reason.
After refusing to drink the cure for his rapidly progressing Hep-V infection, Bill chose to die to free Sookie from her undying love for him. While this was how he literally passed away, fans knew that he figuratively died somewhere between Seasons 3 and 5.

Forced to choose between Bill and Eric, Sookie decided it was better not to choose at all and broke it off with both of them. Alcide suffered a gunshot wound to the head and died instantly, but Sookie was already starting to feel bored in their relationship because life with Alcide was mundane and predictable.
After Sookie and Bill's failed reunion, the infamous Lilith storyline turned Bill into True Blood's main villain when the godlike Lilith possessed him and used the show's lead to massacre the Authority.
When Eric gets his memories back, he tells Sookie that he remembers their relationship and declares his love for her. Sookie admits that she's fallen for him, but that a part of her still loves Bill. At the end of Season 4, Sookie decides to not be with either Bill or Eric, as she loves them both too much.
After appearing to develop an affection for Sookie in the third book in the series, Club Dead, Eric has a brief romance with her in Dead to the World, the fourth book, though, due to a curse, he lost his memories of that time until From Dead to Worse, the eighth book.
Her “baby girl” comes first. Sookie gets tested to see if she is the one who infected her ex-boyfriend Bill with Hep-V and discovers that she was indeed infected after using herself as bait to catch the mob of infected vampires that had been terrorizing Bon Temps.
Hep V-positive Arlene even entered a sexless relationship with a vampire (surely there are condoms in Bon Temps?) and Jason, the town strumpet, ended up just snuggling Hoyt's ex-girlfriend with his undergarments intact.
"The idea was that we wanted Bill to be correct when he said that Sookie could have a normal life, the twist, of course, being that Sookie chose to keep her power and specialness and persevere—despite his belief that she couldn't be okay without giving up her powers," Buckner says.
At the end, Sookie returns to Bill, determined to be with him again before he dies. Sarah is found and captured by Eric, Pam and Mr. Gus; upon drinking from her, Eric is almost instantly cured of his Hep-V.
Almost 4 years later, after Sookie agreed to stake Bill, leaving her heartbroken, New Blood has been released to the market, and the Hep V epidemic has ended. Jason and Bridget are married with many kids. The last scene shows the family and friends of Sookie and Jason enjoying dinner at the Stackhouse.
Because of his infidelity, Sookie ends the relationship for good. In the sixth book, "Definitely Dead," Eric forces Bill to tell Sookie the truth about the Queen Sophie-Anne placing him in Bon Temps to investigate Sookies' talent and gain her trust.
Sookie finally says what has been on her mind the whole time, what kept her from truly committing to Eric: he won't love her when she's old and gray, and he won't ever marry her according to her traditions.
In Dead Ever After, the final book in the series, Sam and Sookie begin a romantic relationship. In the companion book, After Dead: What Came Next in The World of Sookie Stackhouse, it is revealed that Sookie and Sam get married and had four children. Sookie and Sam continued to tend Merlotte's until their retirement.
Sookie discovers her Gran, Adele, has been murdered. Bill leaves to improve his position in the vampire hierarchy. Sookie discovers that her boss, Sam, is a shape-shifter. While Bill is gone, Sookie discovers that the murderer is her brother's friend Rene Lenier.
Warlow deeply loves Sookie and mentioned that whenever he sleeps, he'd dream of Sookie and spending the rest of his life with her. Another side of Warlow was revealed when Sookie hesitated to be turned into a vampire. Warlow lost all patience and began to forcefully turn her.
But if this was the high point, the groundwork for True Blood's decline was being laid in the final episodes of season three. In Fairy Land. That's not a joke – there is a pond in the graveyard that is a portal to the land of fairies.
At the end of True Blood, viewers were treated to a flashforward of a married—and pregnant—happy Sookie (Anna Paquin) at a Thanksgiving dinner. Her mystery man was never revealed, but he was played by stuntman Timothy Eulich. After Bill's death, Sookie went on to fulfill his wish and live a normal life.
Eric Northman doesn't die in True Blood. At the end of season six of True Blood, the character of Eric Northman is thought to be dead by the audience. However, in season 7, the audience finds out that Eric Northman is alive, although he has contracted the Hep-V virus. In episode 8, Eric is cured of the Hep-V virus.
