In the 75th Hunger Games, Finnick Odair from District 4 had a token that was a gold bangle with a flame pattern. This token was first given to Haymitch Abernathy from Effie Trinket as a sign of them being a team. Haymitch gave it to Finnick to tell Katniss to make him an ally, as he could later help her in the games.
On his wrist, Finnick is wearing the same gold band with flames that Haymitch was wearing the first morning of training. She decides Haymitch gave him the band as a sign to Katniss and Peeta that they are to trust Finnick.
Katniss is unfazed by his flirting, and admits that while he is attractive, she has never been drawn to him. At first, Finnick appears to be another shallow puppet of the Capitol's. She says that she's never been attracted to him and that is possibly because she has found him too easy to lose.
He loved his mentor, Mags, like family, and had to watch while she sacrificed herself in the arena to save him, Katniss, and Peeta. What's more, Mags had already sacrificed herself just to be in the arena, by taking the place of Annie, the woman Finnick loves. By the end of the Games, Finnick is seriously depressed.
Before he rescued Peeta, Katniss saw Finnick as a threat and someone she will eventually have to kill. However, she admits she will never be able to kill him because he saved Peeta. She won't be able to look past the debt she owes him for saving Peeta's life.

What was the point of killing Finnick?
Finnick's death gave even more weight to Katniss's mission to kill Snow, since he was directly responsible for the death of one of her friends - making it all the more poignant when she chooses to kill President Coin (Julianne Moore) instead of getting to personally kill Snow herself.
The female Morphling, however, appears almost coincidentally, and Peeta even mentions that they don't know her real name. Given that she is willing to make the ultimate sacrifice to protect Peeta, it's safe to assume that the Morphling was committed to the rebel cause.
Johanna won the 71st Hunger Games by pretending to be weak and that made all the other tributes leave her for last. Yes, Katniss did develop an addiction to the morphling, on account of constantly being sedated with it, however, I wouldn't say that she was an addict. An addict is someone who goes to a substance (or whatever their 'poison' may be) under their own mind.
Johanna Mason developed an addiction to morphling while hospitalized in District 13 for the torture she endured in the Capitol. When she was weaned off, she instead dipped into Katniss's supply.
He explains that Peeta came to Haymitch to beg for a chance to go back in the arena and to take his place should Haymitch's name be drawn at the reaping. The two agree to work to keep Peeta alive since he and Haymitch worked to keep Katniss safe last time.
