The identity is used primarily as a disguise for the antagonists of each film to conceal their identities while conducting serial murders, and as such has been portrayed by several actors. In the Scream universe, the costume is not unique and is easily obtainable, allowing others to wear a similar outfit.
Well, the Scream 6 trailer sets up two major clues – the first being a sinister shrine to the many Ghostfaces that came before; the battered mask of the latest one clearly suggests that it belonged to a serial stabber, however, none of the mannequins on show are masked.
One factor that makes Ghostface attractive is his anonymity. He wears a black robe and a white mask, which hides his identity. This creates a sense of mystery and intrigue around his character. People are often attracted to what they cannot have, and Ghostface's true identity remains a mystery throughout the movie.
According to Anthony Masi's documentary "Still Screaming", the Ghostface mask was first devised for novelty stores during the Halloween season as early as between 1991 and 1992.
However, this can't always account for who's behind the mask since it's not actor Skeet Ulrich (Billy), nor is it Matthew Lillard (Stu). The man who wears the costume is stuntman Dane Farwell, so any sounds made by the character are probably his.

Steven Orth is killed by Stu Macher. Stu and Billy attacked him off-screen, gagged him and later, while Billy was taunting Casey on the phone, Stu gutted Steve. Casey Becker is killed by Billy Loomis and Stu Macher. Billy caught Casey outside, strangled and stabbed her multiple times.

Ghostface is revealed as Sidney's half-brother, film director Roman Bridger (Scott Foley), born to their mother Maureen during a two-year period when she moved to Hollywood to become an actress under the name Rina Reynolds.
That being said, the character has explicitly only ever been human, meaning the new Ghostface could be the scariest one yet. Those taking up the mantle of Ghostface have been known to use trickery and technology to appear superhuman or supernatural, but they have always only ever been sadistic people.

Detective Bailey, Quinn Bailey, and Ethan Landry were revealed as the killers at the end of Scream 6. Their motive was revenge for Detective Bailey's son's death.
Scream 6's ending revealed there were not one or two Ghostface killers running around, but three. Naturally, it was Detective Bailey and his children, Quinn and Ethan, who were confirmed to be the family of Richie, Sam's deceased boyfriend and one of two Ghostface killers from the fifth Scream movie.
Charlie may have been the least likely suspect, and that's exactly how he (almost) got away with it. However, Charlie was also one of the weakest of all the Ghostfaces. Not only was he killed almost immediately by his accomplice (more on her later), but each of his kills was sloppier than the last.
