Loki is Thor's adopted brother and the Asgardian god of mischief. In his younger years, he and Loki were very close and good friends, even if occasionally irritated by Loki's mischief. However, it is later revealed that Loki was often jealous of Thor even back then, and resented being left in his "shadow".
Summary. Loki's villain origins in the MCU stem from his discovery that he is actually the son of a Frost Giant, which led him to believe that Odin favored Thor over him, causing him to turn against his family and become a villain.
Gifted with a Scepter that acted as a mind control device, Loki would be able to influence others. Unbeknownst to him, the Scepter was also influencing him, fueling his hatred over his brother Thor and the inhabitants of Earth.
While Loki and Thor did, by heart, truly love each other as brothers, their intention to rule Asgard made them fierce rivals. However, Thor evolved himself by learning that a true leader doesn't start wars or seek to conquer other territories, while Loki sought to control the world and gain more power over others.
Loki often hid a degree of jealousy that Thor was to become King, and felt that Odin perhaps favoured Thor over him. As Thor was always the center of attention, Loki found himself longing for a spotlight over the years, which manifested itself in extreme attention-seeking behaviour.

How did Loki betray Thor?
After betraying Thor by aiding in the Frost Giants' invasion, Loki turned on him again when it came to Asgard's retaliation. Loki manipulated the anger of his brother to trick him into attacking Jotunheim. Thor, Loki, Lady Sif, and the Warrior's Three all went to the icy planet in order to stand up to the Frost Giants.
By saving and organizing every existing timeline, Loki has become the God of Time — a higher being who keeps the past, present, and future of every universe from being erased by outside forces. However, Loki has also become the God of Stories, as he has placed everybody's personal journey above his own.
On Sakaar, Thor decided that because of their differences and distinct objectives in life, the best would be if they parted ways with each other. This hurts Loki who, despite everything, also deeply loves his brother.
In the films, his most prominent relationships are with his family, notably his adoptive brother Thor (see: Thorki) and his adoptive mother, Queen Frigga. In his TV series, Loki and a female version of himself called Sylvie fall in love (see: Sylki) and their relationship becomes a prominent point of the show.
As Frigga stated, "everything he does, he does with a purpose." He loved Thor but when Thor went to Jotunheim and nearly started a war in the process, he exiled Thor to Earth, to teach him what it meant to be a good warrior and a hero, as well as to bolster his humility.

What is Loki the god of? Loki is considered a trickster god, known for being neither fully good nor evil since his main aim was always to create chaos. Despite his father being a giant, he is still counted a member of the Aesir—a tribe of deities including Odin, Frigg, Tyr, and Thor.
Here, holding on to all of the timelines, he became a kind of tree god, physically representing the Norse tree of life, Yggdrasil. It was a poignant and painful ending for Loki, who now seems to be sentenced to being alone for eternity as he watches over the timelines.

Sigyn was an Aesir goddess and the wife of the trickster Loki. She is portrayed as loyal and dutiful but may have secrets to reveal. While Sigyn was one of the Aesir gods of Asgard, she was also the wife of the trickster Loki. He was a giant invited to live among the Aesir due to a brotherhood pack with Odin.
At the end of Thor, Loki attempted to commit suicide, and ended up falling into a wormhole that transported him to the Sanctuary of Thanos. There, he met Thanos and the Other, who made a deal with him: they would provide Loki with everything he needed (including an alien army) in order to take over Earth.
This caused Thor to send lightning towards them, toppling the mine on top of them. Loki apologized and confessed, saying he only thought of the challenge to get the Cup and gain as much respect as Thor. His brother forgave him and found a way out of the mine.
Loki is much more skilled than Thor in the use of his powers. He has to be because even though he is more powerful than the other Asgardians he is tremendously outclassed by Thor and Odin by magnitudes of power. Realizing this he developed his brain. He realized that knowledge could even the odds.
How is Thor 500 years older than Loki? Thor Odinson himself said he is around 1500 years old at the time of the events of Infinity War (2018), and MCU fandom wiki mentions Loki's year of birth as 965 AD, hence he would be 1055 years old at the time of his death in 2018. So, Thor is around 445 years older than Loki.
Meanwhile, the events of Endgame and Loki gave fans hope that Thor would get a chance to see the person Loki became, easing the grief from seeing his brother's death. Unfortunately, the Loki finale all but ensures that won't happen. There is one small glimmer of hope, though.
This added confusion to an already spirited debate regarding Loki's worthiness in and out of comics. It is in The Immortal Thor #5 by Al Ewing, Martin Coccolo, Matthew Wilson, and VC's Joe Sabino that the confusion is cleared up with a simple answer: Loki is worthy of lifting Mjolnir!
