Anakin had prophetic nightmares of Padmé dying in childbirth, and pledged himself to the Sith Order, feeling desperate to save his wife and that the Jedi Order was holding him back from his true potential and the power to keep her alive.
Padmé was pregnant, and the thought of losing his wife and his child terrified Skywalker. Chancellor Palpatine was in truth, Darth Sidious, a Dark Lord of the Sith. Sidious promised to show Anakin paths to Force powers that could cheat death. With this ability, Anakin sought to save Padmé's life.
Anakin does not have even the slightest bit of remorse. By the end, he feels nothing but anger. Although he feels regret for killing Padme, he still helps the evil Emperor. The film ends with Anakins standing side by side with the man on whose behalf he has committed all his crimes.
The only reason Anakin turned to the dark side was to save Padme from dying during her pregnancy. For those who believe that the reason was power, they just don't get it! The first and only time he mentioned power was after his mother's death. He told that if he was stronger he could save her.
So, while it certainly wasn't his ideal, Anakin stayed on with Palpatine because he thought what Palpatine was morally correct. Would he have preferred to have shared that future with his wife and children?

Does Darth Vader know he killed Padme?
Darth Vader awakens, and his first question is about the whereabouts of Padmé. Palpatine tells Darth Vader that in his anger he killed her, placing the blame for Padmé's death on Vader. Vader denies it, saying he sensed Padmé was still alive, which the audience knows she was as Obi-Wan escaped on the ship with her.
The whole reason for him turning to the dark side was to save Padme. So why didn't Vader almost immediately turn on Palpatine or just rejoin the light side after her death and the apparent death of his children? He had nothing to lose at this point and no reason to stay with the dark side.
Being the low-wisdom guy that he was, he acted on his hatred immediately as Palapine encouraged him to do. He couldn't force-choke Obi-Wan (the one he really wanted to do it to), so he did it to Padme (the one he could do it to). Anakin believed Padme brought Obi Wan to kill him, and reacted instinctively.
The story is Anakin was manipulated to the dark side by Palpatine based on fears of losing Padme and appeals to his desire power and agency, over his life and the galaxy as a whole. Part of me wonders why he believed/ trusted Palpatine to begin with.
However, when it comes to who Darth Vader hates more than anyone in the Star Wars galaxy, himself and Obi-Wan Kenobi don't hold a candle to the true point of Darth Vader's hatred, Emperor Palpatine.
tragically, he was not able to resurrect Padme. because she refused to go with him. due to his inability to let go, telling him she didn't know him anymore, jumping away from him to her death.
Before Padmé's death, she still believed there was still good left in Anakin, and that one day he could be redeemed. During Anakin's time as the Emperor's enforcer, he continued to suffer from grief over Padmé's death, and guilt over his supposed hand in it.
If Anakin had never fell in love with Padmé, he would've never turned to the Dark Side because it was his fear for losing Padmé and his two unborn children which caused him to be easily seduced by the Dark Side of the Force. It was his fear which made it much easier for Palpatine to manipulate Anakin.
The thing that breaks Padme's heart in the end is that Anakin says to her: "Come and join me. I have all the power now. I can rule the universe and you can do it with me." So the idea of saving her life has become a minor issue.
However, Kenobi did not understand the significance of her gesture, only understanding Amidala's basic feelings about it, and returned it to her. After her death, Amidala's body held the japor snippet during her funeral procession, and was buried alongside her body in a privately owned mausoleum.
This time jump makes Padmé a very mature 24 years old, while Anakin is still a Jedi Padawan and teenager at the age of 19. This formidable time in their lives is when the romance between the two sparks, so the age difference between Padmé and Anakin doesn't hold them back.
This fell in line with various fan theories and non-canon novelizations that suggested Obi-Wan and Padmé had an affair sometime during the Clone Wars. In the Star Wars prequel movies, Obi-Wan often has a duty to protect Padmé, but there was never any sense of romantic feelings.
The canonical comic Star Wars: Darth Vader #7 confirms the younglings' deaths caused Anakin grief, self-loathing, hatred and pain, fueling his descent even further into the dark side.
Even if he still desired to do good, his anger had corrupted him to the point of no return. And this anger was amplified even further once he believed he caused Padme's death, as now he had nothing but a deep hatred for himself and everything around him.
Padme Amidala's secret marriage with Anakin Skywalker was one of the biggest reasons he eventually turned to the dark side. His emotions and love for her often clouded his judgment, and sometimes led him to be violent.
