Jane Porter from Disney's Tarzan is called Jane because she is named after Jane Goodall. You may ask "Why would Professor Porter name his daughter after Jane Goodall?"
Jane Porter (later Jane Clayton, Lady Greystoke) is a fictional character in Edgar Rice Burroughs's series of Tarzan novels and in adaptations of the saga to other media, particularly film. Jane, an American from Baltimore, Maryland, is the daughter of professor Archimedes Q. Porter.
However, in the original novel Tarzan of the Apes, he was said to be one years old when his parents died and 21 years of age when he met a 19-year-old Jane Porter. Tarzan's name from the original story Tarzan of the Apes means "White Skin" in the ape language. He is one of two Disney characters to meet their author.
Pretty sure this tale has you wondering about Jane. But sadly for fans of Tarzan's lady friend who first appeared in Tarzan of the Apes — A Romance of the Jungle in 1912 in All-Story, she does appear to be a pure figment of Burroughs' imagination.

Tarzan Triumphs could have been subtitled “Me Tarzan, Where Jane?” for with the series moving from MGM Studios to RKO Pictures they lost Maureen O'Sullivan as she was an MGM contract player. Jane would be explained away as, “Visiting her sick mother in London” and wouldn't show up for a couple pictures.
While Burroughs never said exactly where Tarzan was set, Cameroon's sandy beaches, imposing jungle and ape sanctuaries seem like a good bet – so much so that the West African country was chosen as the setting for the 1984 film Greystoke: The Legend of Tarzan, Lord of the Apes.
Sabor is finally killed as she is impaled on the head of Tarzan's spear tip when the ape man raises it against the ferocious leopard, thus killing the animal.
