Marlin chooses to name his only surviving child Nemo, a name Coral had liked. As Nemo grows, Marlin becomes very overprotective of him, in part due to Nemo's unusually small right fin, which was a result of the egg damage from the barracuda attack.
After losing his wife and family to the ocean, Marlin is left alone to raise his only surviving child, Nemo. He vows never to let anything happen to his son. A loving and responsible father, Marlin keeps his noble promise throughout Nemo's early years.
He was especially paranoid and neurotic about any potential danger that could occur to Nemo, and as such, rarely left Nemo alone due to the traumatic experience of losing the rest of his family to a barracuda attack, and not wanting the same thing to happen to Nemo.
Marlin proves to be emotionally disabled from the traumatic loss of his wife, and eggs. “Like many single parents who have survived a tragedy, Marlin turns neurotically overprotective of his son (Germain, 2003)”. Marlin helps represent the struggle with chronic anxiety, and the effect it has on relationships.
Nemo being a figment of Marlin's subconscious makes this all the more believable, with the absent-minded Dory also possibly being a manifestation of Marlin's consciousness as it guides him through the process.
“Finding Nemo” would have ended very differently if it reflected the true lives of clownfish. That's because Nemo's dad would have turned into a female before he returned from his journey across the ocean, scientists have revealed.
Andrew Stanton wrote and directed the film. The inspiration for Finding Nemo sprang from multiple experiences, going back to director Andrew Stanton's childhood, when he loved going to the dentist to see the fish tank, assuming that the fish were from the ocean and wanted to go home.

I headcanon her as having an exaggerated version of ADHD because she gets distracted extremely easily and can't keep her attention on one thing.
Dory suffers from severe short-term memory loss, but a lot of what she goes through can be adapted to other contexts, such as the world, or ocean, of ADHD. Dory has trouble with multi-step directions, is easily distracted, and is very impulsive.
She is able to put Marlin first despite his insensitivity to her feelings because she genuinely cares about helping, just as a hero would. Dory's positive outlook on life and trust in those around her is the only thing that got the two of them through the journey to find Nemo.
The two bring out the best in each other, challenge each other, and help each other grow. Through the adventure, Dory helps Marlin learns how to trust and let go. While, for Dory, she admits, “I remember things better with you. I look at you, and I… and I'm home,” to Marlin.
Marlin is Nemo's father, who is careful, meticulous, and sometimes too jumpy and anxious for his son's liking. He named Nemo's smaller fin, his lucky fin, which happened when Marlin found Nemo's egg cracked after the barracuda attack.
Crush is a sea turtle who speaks in the manner of a surfer dude. He helps Marlin and Dory get to Sydney Harbour to rescue Nemo. His nicknames for Marlin and Dory are "Jellyman" and "Little Blue", respectively.

In "Finding Nemo", I discovered sunken treasure—a multifaceted representation of disability. The protagonist, Nemo, displays a small, or "deformed," fin that is a congenital result of a fatal attack on his mother and sibling eggs—a corporeal characteristic that the story surrounds, yet does not drown in.
It's sad, dark, tragic and constantly asks the question "Can Dory make it in life with her disability? How will she survive?" and has many hopeless scenes. A few curse words almost said get cut off. Nemo is barely in this, at all.
Some animated sequel ideas just don't work out in Hollywood, and it's bittersweet when fans learn exactly what they are missing out on. Such is the case with Finding Nemo 2, a movie that never got to be.
Etymology. Nemo is Latin for 'no one' or 'nobody'. Nemo is itself the Latin translation of Ancient Greek Outis 'Nobody', the pseudonym adopted by the sea-faring hero Odysseus in Greek mythology to outwit the Cyclops Polyphemus.
