A new Star Wars theory suggests that Darth Vader couldn't have killed Ahsoka Tano, and the upcoming Ahsoka show may confirm this. Ahsoka's survival was ensured by a vergence in the Force during her duel with Vader, and the Force directly interfered to save her.
In fact, Star Wars: Rebels creator Dave Filoni claimed that by the time Ahsoka had appeared to fight the Empire alongside Ezra and his pals, only Darth Vader and Emperor Palpatine could match her in battle.
While the Star Wars universe doesn't explicitly delve into Darth Vader's personal thoughts and emotions after his transformation, the events surrounding his former apprentice, Ahsoka Tano, suggest that he might have experienced regret or conflict regarding their relationship.
But the biggest reason Vader believed Ahsoka was dead was because of her lightsabers. As he was taught by Obi-Wan and he taught Ahsoka, a lightsaber is a Jedi's life, and they must keep it with them always. He didn't believe she would leave them behind.
Knowing Anakin, or as he was dubbed shortly before the attack on the Temple, Darth Vader, he would not try to kill Ahsoka. He would fight her of course, but he would do his best to take her alive. He had no reason to kill her at all.

Anakin Skywalker may have been a great Jedi before turning to the dark side, but the most powerful Jedi in Star Wars was his Padawan, Ahsoka Tano. Despite being the Chosen One, Anakin Skywalker was not the most powerful Jedi in Star Wars, as that honor goes to Ahsoka Tano.
The canonical comic Star Wars: Darth Vader #7 confirms the younglings' deaths caused Anakin grief, self-loathing, hatred and pain, fueling his descent even further into the dark side.
