Just as Tony had the suitcase containing the Tesseract in his hand, 2012's Hulk knocked him down, causing absolute chaos. The suitcase went flying and revealed the Tesseract. Loki, momentarily left unmonitored, was able to grab the Tesseract and use its power to teleport away.
Time travel and alternate dimensions, my friends. The Loki who died in Infinity War is still dead, but the Loki from the past – around the events of the first Avengers movie – is alive and well. And he was able to escape capture by grabbing hold of the Space Stone and vanishing.
As a part of the Time Heist, several Avengers travel from 2023 back to 2012, where they attempt to obtain the Tesseract from the Battle of New York. However, things go awry, leading Loki to escape with the Tesseract, thereby creating a new timeline.

Is Loki now the god of time?
By saving and organizing every existing timeline, Loki has become the God of Time — a higher being who keeps the past, present, and future of every universe from being erased by outside forces. However, Loki has also become the God of Stories, as he has placed everybody's personal journey above his own.
Loki has always delighted in cheating death, manipulating others into believing he was dead in order to hatch his next scheme. At the end of Thor, he apparently took his own life — but Loki survived death by plunging into one of the many portals he knew could be found in Yggdrasil.
Loki, momentarily left unmonitored, was able to grab the Tesseract and use its power to teleport away. We didn't know Loki's destination, but, as seen in the premiere of Loki, he landed in a desert, but was whisked away by the TVA who had tracked the location that Loki had disappeared to.
Following this final stanza a prose section details that after Loki left the hall, he disguised himself as a salmon and hid in the waterfall of Franangrsfors, where the Æsir caught him.
During Avengers: Endgame, the team time traveled back to the day of his capture, hoping to grab both the Tesseract and the Mind Stone. The plan went awry and the Tesseract landed at the feet of the shackled Loki, who grabbed it and teleported out of there.
Thanos destroys everyone and everything on the ship. He takes the Tesseract (which has an Infinity Stone inside) from Loki and then chokes the god of mischief until he dies. “No do-overs this time,” Thanos tells Loki in that scene. From there, Loki is gone.
So, while the multiverse is new for the "present-day" TVA, outside that little pocket of spacetime is a different story. For the entirety of the MCU, through Loki Season 1, there was no multiverse. However, to the characters outside of the TVA, this "new" multiverse has also always existed.
By far, Loki is now the strongest MCU character. It was shown in season 1 of Loki that Timelines=the universe. Loki held infinity of them with his strength.
Yes Loki is dead, he got killed by Thanos in Avengers Infinity War (2018). But the Loki from the Loki series, is indeed Loki, but not the same Loki that died in Infinity War.
It turns out Loki had a real chance to survive Thanos, and it's possible that he did. Though Classic Loki made it past the Mad Titan, it's less likely that Hiddleston's Loki did. In the Loki premiere, the God of Mischief sees images of his entire timeline at the TVA, and the film ends shortly after Thanos kills him.
Here, holding on to all of the timelines, he became a kind of tree god, physically representing the Norse tree of life, Yggdrasil. It was a poignant and painful ending for Loki, who now seems to be sentenced to being alone for eternity as he watches over the timelines.

Loki sacrificed himself to save everyone on every timeline. He also saved the TVA, a place people can now choose to serve freely. Some like Mobius opted to leave the TVA behind and go home. Others decided to stay because the TVA still serves an important purpose.
During the destruction of Asgard, Loki noticed the Tesseract and took it for himself before the vault, along with the planet, were destroyed. Thanos later acquired the Tesseract and crushed it to unveil the Space Stone within and then inserted the stone into his Infinity Gauntlet.
During Thor: The Dark World, Loki deceives Thor, faking his death after Kurse impails him. As Thor cradles his brother, Loki chokes out his "final" words before dying. However, Odin sends a guard to Svartalfheim, and a living Loki swaps places with him, returning to Asgard to dethrone the Allfather.
Of course, Loki is always one step ahead, and it's revealed at the end of the film that he faked his death to return to Asgard, cast a spell on Odin, and impersonate him in order to become king.
After it was destroyed, the Bifrost could no longer be harnessed, preventing the annihilation of the Frost Giants, and creating a temporary wormhole which Loki allowed himself to fall through after Odin condemned Loki's actions.
