CHICAGO -- "Ant-Man & the Wasp: Quantumania" the latest movie chapter in the Marvel Universe, is now in theaters. Evangeline Lilly, who plays "Hope Van Dyne," tells ABC7's Hosea Sanders "The Wasp" is spreading her wings in a different way for this sequel.
In February 2023, Lilly reprised her role as Hope van Dyne / Wasp in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, released as the first film of Phase Five of the MCU.

Why does Cassie look different in Quantumania?
Marvel Studios recast Cassie Lang for Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, choosing Kathryn Newton for a bigger and more recognizable star in the role. The decision to recast Cassie Lang was not unusual, as Marvel has recast other characters in the past, such as Bruce Banner and James Rhodey.
Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, it's sad to say, is not good. It is not good in many, many ways. The weirdly blank performances, the thunderingly dull fights, the nothingy plot: it is not good.
With such a dramatic time span, the character obviously needed to be recast to accommodate Cassie's true age. Thus, Abby Ryder Fortson was replaced by Emma Fuhrmann to embody the teenage Cassie.
The character was recast in Endgame due to the 5-year blip caused by Thanos' snap in order to better reflect the time-jump between Ant-Man and the Wasp and Endgame. Cassie Lang has been recast once more for Ant-Man 3, and the plot details reveal a good story reason for this decision.
As Evangeline Lilly explains, Hope van Dyne has evolved very much since her first MCU appearance in Ant-Man, in which she was a much colder and emotionally-guarded character who, as a senior board member of Pym Technologies, helps Darren Cross take over the company.

As Quantumania continues, Kang confirms he was exiled to the Quantum Realm by none other than himself - variants of Kang whom the film's Conqueror claims feared him and chose to imprison him in the subatomic universe outside of time and space.
