Jack follows the formula of a tragic hero because he begins the story at a lofty position. In spite of all his fame and talent, he yearns for another side of life. While a desire for completeness is not a flaw, his impulsiveness proves to be.
Jack Skellington is the patron spirit of Halloween, portrayed as being on par with Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny within his own holiday. As a living skeleton, he is immortal and can remove parts of his body without harm, as is often demonstrated for comic relief.
He comes off more as an anti-hero, if anything.. Despite this, he's clearly a creature that lurks in the night. Jack Skellington is well intentioned as he wants to spread the joy of Christmas to Halloweentown. He is bored with the repetitive nature of Halloween and longs for something different.
In The Nightmare Before Christmas, it is clear that Jack Skellington is not able to do otherwise than to ruin Christmas. However, Jack takes charge of Christmas because of his own inclinations. Therefore, he is morally responsible for ruining Christmas, even though he could not have done otherwise.

Oogie Boogie was the obvious choice to step up and take control of the day to day stuff, but Jack was worried that Oogie's perverse personality and love of gambling would slowly cause the town to lose its Halloween spirit.
Jack Skellington provides a great illustration of the search for purpose and meaning in one's vocation. His journey is one that many of us can resonate with. But the good news is, the restless feelings of dissatisfaction and exhaustion don't have to overtake you.
But a less obvious theme also informs much of his work, one that concerns an age-old “archetype” known as the trickster. Many of Burton's films feature either a trickster-like character and/or other trickster elements. Such characters include Beetlejuice, Jack Skellington, and Edward Bloom.

The Oogie Boogie Man, better known as Oogie Boogie, is the main antagonist of The Nightmare Before Christmas franchise. He is the personification of the common child's nightmare of the "Boogie Man", resembling a large burlap sack full of bugs, spiders, and worms. He is Jack Skellington's archenemy.
The Nightmare Before Christmas soundtrack's cut epilogue reveals that Jack and Sally have "four or five" skeleton children who form a xylophone band. The film's ending is hopeful and forward-looking, while the cut epilogue provides a more reflective and bittersweet tone.

Macabre and astonishing, Tim Burton's Nightmare Before Christmas is a brilliant piece of technology, perhaps undercut a bit by the insincerity of its story and the blood-and-thunder music of Danny Elfman (every single piece he writes sounds like every other single piece he writes).
Though most people think of Tim Burton as a Hollywood writer and director, his titular holiday flick was actually inspired by the 1981 parody poem he wrote, putting a satirical spin on “The Night Before Christmas.” The title of Burton's poem and his subsequent movie came from a pun within his popular Christmas poem.
