Even with the tell, the sequel is just about as scary as the original, and Olyphant makes the Ghostface truly intimidating. Furthermore, the third act of Scream 2 provides a genuine surprise with the true identity of "Debby Salt" (Laurie Metcalf) as Billy Loomis' mother.
'Scream 2' is... well, a decent sequel to the 1996 thriller/slasher/satire; it obviously falls short of the original, but that was to be expected. Still, it's ideal for a popcorn horror night and fun. Scream 2: 7/10.
That trepidation is out the window in Scream VI, which is easily the goriest entry in the franchise, but the difference between its violence and that of 2022's Scream is staggering. Scream VI features an expanded body count and intense setpieces.
Overall, I'd give the movie a 3/5, and kids ages 12 and up should be able to handle it. My rating: Rated R for strong horror violence, disturbing images, strong language and some crude/sexual humor.
But don't be lulled by the star power and satire: The violence here is brutal, intense, and gory. Though the thrilling pace, high school drama, and steady jolts will likely keep young audiences watching, this movie is best for older teens and adults.

Some Scream movies have been too goofy to be truly scary, while others redefined the horror genre and shocked audiences. The original Scream is considered the scariest due to its unsettling level of believability and well-developed villains.
The good news is SCREAM 3 has slightly less blood and not as many gruesome deaths as the previous movies. Sex and nudity are also gone. But at times this movie can feel more like a crime drama and I can't say it's as scary even with a more violent Ghostface. Although this movie lacks in terms of real scares, it still manages to be an above average slasher.

Very bloody and disturbing. There are many scenes where the killer attacks his victims, but he is also hit with fists, knees and feet as the victims defend themselves. Severe. Many other murder or attack victims are somewhat to extremely bloody and by the end nearly everyone is covered in their or someone else's blood.

Severe. Vicious stabbings, close-range shootings, and hand-to-hand fighting. The carnage isn't as extreme as it was in the first movie, bloodshed and stabbings are still abundant. Many people are killed during the movie, usually with a knife and occasionally via gunshots.
Though the seventh film is still in the works, the franchise has hit a bump in the road as it has been reported that several cast members will no longer return for the sequel.
