The movie focuses on mental health and trauma and it does that very well. Not for the easily rattled, lots of gore and jump-scares. I would not recommend for kids.

Smile, by Raina Telgemeier - wonderful graphic novel for ages 9 - 13. So many kids are drawn to graphic novels and comic books - they love how visually stimulating they are, they love the laughs and the drama. They love reading books with fewer words but all the ideas!

Smile is rated R by the MPAA for strong violent content and grisly images, and language. Violence: People are seen cutting, stabbing, and burning themselves and others. A dead cat is shown. Corpses are seen bearing a variety of grisly injuries.
This is an extremely scary, graphic horror movie that should not be taken lightly. I have seen my fair share of horror movies over the years but this one definitely has a different feel to it. It is chilling, unnerving, and very difficult to watch sometimes.
Great and easy read, can be very relatable to many young readers. This book definitely talked about many topics that many young readers will encounter! Recommended for the following grades: 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th.
For the most part, Raina's struggles are ordinary teenage concerns: Will the boy she likes ever like her back? Is she cool enough? It's this ordinariness and the realistic depiction of how Raina overcomes her difficulties that make this graphic novel stand out.
Definitely don't watch it with your kids: There are some fairly graphic depictions of violence and a healthy heaping of profanity which make this a really, really poor choice for younger viewers – even aside from the continual peril of the situation. But, as a reasonably exciting little thriller, you could do worse.
Great film, but not for kids under 13. I recommend this film to everyone who loves slightly disturbing films and TV shows like me but for anyone under the age of 13 you really should not watch it. It's very gory and contains adult language.
