It was Rita Skeeter who tortured Hermione (a minor) and her friends with her malicious lies and abuse, for months. Hermione retaliated by keeping Rita's animagus form in a jar for a few days (not months) & threatened to expose her if she spread any more lies.
Hermione of course. She caught Rita Skeeter hiding in the hospital wing at Hogwarts and kept her in a jar with an Unbreakable Charm on it until the end of the school term – when the Hogwarts Express arrived back in London. She even managed to make Rita promise to keep her quill to herself for an entire year.
Ultimately, Hermione discovered the means by which Rita spied on others and forced her to "keep her quill to herself for a full year" by catching her in her beetle form while she was perched on the Hospital Wing window and trapping her in a jar imbued with an Unbreakable Charm so she couldn't transform.

Hermione DID NOT trap Rita Skeeter in a jar for a whole year, she “let her out when [they] got back to London” (GoF p631). The most she kept her in a jar for was a few days maybe a week or two, it's not really clear.

Rita Skeeter is a supporting antagonist in the Harry Potter franchise. A notorious journalist specializing in slander and defamation, Rita is actually a legitimate criminal (albeit unknown) due to the fact that she is an unregistered Animagus, which is illegal.

The excerpt from the book contains the worst Rita Skeeter has dug up on Dumbledore, seeming to prove that Dumbledore wanted to dominate Muggles and aided and encouraged the notorious and murderous Dark wizard, Grindelwald.
She heard Ron making fun of her. Hermione was crying in the girls bathroom during the first book because Ron Weasley was making fun of her and insulting her terribly.
Throughout the films, if you notice, Hermione wears pink repeatedly. Something similar was done for Harry and Ron, they wore blue (Harry) and red (Ron) as a subtle way of distinguishing characters. This is why it makes sense for Hermione to wear pink.
