Vicki returned in 1989 and 1990 in the Grant/Breyfogle era to coincide with release of Tim Burton's Batman. She once again began a romantic relationship with Bruce Wayne, but became upset over his frequent absences.
The character Vicki Vale from Batman (1989) (played by Kim Basinger) was going to return in this film. She was featured in Sam Hamm's early draft of the film when it was intended to be a direct sequel of the previous one, but due to the fact that Tim Burton doesn't like making sequels, it was decided to exclude her.

Sean Young was originally cast as Vicki Vale. Young was present for four weeks of pre-production but broke her collarbone while rehearsing a equestrian scene at Wayne Manor. This ended up being one of many scenes being dropped prior to filming.
