After leaving the arcade as an adult, Richie again has an encounter with It in the town square during which It, as Pennywise, threatens to reveal Richie's “dirty little secret,” implying that he will out him as gay.
It is revealed in one of the final scenes of the film that Richie recarves his and Eddie's initials into a bridge. Director Andy Muschietti has stated that the decision to depict Richie as gay in It Chapter Two was based on this interpretation of the book.
Well, the simple answer would be an emphatic no. As was demonstrated in IT Chapter One, the pair were close in the book — with Richie even going on to kiss Eddie on the cheek following his sacrifice. However, there was nothing to imply that their dynamic was anything but a deep friendship.
We learn that Richie Tozier, the fast-talking, foul-mouthed teenager (played by Finn Wolfhard) who grew up to be a popular stand-up comedian (Bill Hader) is gay and has been secretly in love with his friend and fellow club member Eddie Kaspbrak (played as an adult by James Ransone).
One of those attacks resulted in Losers Club member Eddie breaking his arm while trying to get away from It; he is left with a heavy-duty cast, which a bully defaces with a big old "loser." So Eddie attempted a little DIY redecoration, by turning the word into a makeshift "lover."

Canon. Richie and Eddie have been friends since kindergarten and met through their friend, Bill Denbrough. Richie often teases Eddie and calls him "Eds" or "Eddie Spaghetti" to get a reaction from him. They are all part of the "Losers Club" and fight with their friends to defeat Pennywise the clown.
In the book, as opposed to the movies, Richie is the only one who calls Eddie 'Eds'. As an adult, Eddie reflects on the nickname: "Man, he had hated when Richie called him Eds...but he had sort of liked it, too... It was something... like a secret name.
Richie was the most light-hearted member of the Losers' Club. The fear and terror didn't take control of him like it did the others. Richie had the nickname, "Trashmouth," for his constant use of foul language. That mouth frequently got him in troubles with adults and bullies in town, like Henry Bowers.
In IT, Richie (played by Finn Wolfhard) admits to his friends that he's terrified of clowns, which is coincidentally the default form that Pennywise takes on. However, in both the book and the 1990 miniseries, his greatest fear is a werewolf, and cutting this from his battle with Pennywise was a mistake.
Ben is an overweight social outcast who has no friends until he meets the Losers' Club. Richie nicknames Ben “Haystack” after the obese wrestler, Haystack Calhoun. Ben is known among adults for being exceptionally polite.
Stephen King's IT introduced readers to a one-of-a-kind creature that can take any form, the most common one being Pennywise the Dancing Clown, and as menacing as it is, this creature has one big enemy it's truly scared of: Maturin, the turtle.
Georgie Elmer Denbrough is a fictional character created by Stephen King from his 1986 epic horror novel It. Georgie is the younger brother of Bill Denbrough, and falls prey to Pennywise the Clown. He is used by Pennywise to taunt Bill throughout the novel.
Unfortunately, King's imagination ran a little wilder than alluded to in the movies or earlier in the books, and the consequence of that is a pregnant Pennywise.
In Muschietti's interpretation, “Richie is gay and he's always had a thing for Eddie. But it never flourished because probably Eddie wasn't gay and especially because Richie was never able to come out” he says.
The leper is representative of Eddie's fear of disease. When seeing the leper, Eddie felt that if it had touched him he would instantly catch every disease that it had and rot from the inside out.
But they still have to face the clown-spider hybrid. When Richie gets caught in the Deadlights, Eddie hurls the fence post from the Neibolt house — that Bev told him “kills monsters if you believe it does” — at spider-Pennywise, wounding It and releasing Richie from his trance.
According to It, when humans got scared, "all the chemicals of fear flooded the body and salted the meat". This is why he prefers to feast on children -- their fears are simple, pure, and powerful compared to the complex, pathological fears of adults.
