Mr. Han heals Dre's injuries using the ancient Chinese medicine methods of fire cupping. He explains that Cheng and his friends are not inherently bad, but are taught mercilessness to their enemies by their teacher, Master Li. Intrigued, Dre asks if Han could teach him kung fu.
Han call Dre "Xiao Dre"? （小） "Xiao" in Mandarin literally means "small" or "little". In this case, like in the original where Mr Miyagi calls Daniel "Daniel-san", Mr. Han is calling Dre "Little Dre" because Dre is obviously younger than him.
Mr. Han teaches Dre all about kung fu in the hope that Dre will be able to face down Cheng and perhaps win the heart of a pretty classmate named Mei Ying.

Why did Cheng hate Dre?
He harasses Dre Parker (the remake's protagonist) for his interactions with both boys' love interest Mei Ying. Throughout the film, Cheng and his friends continually harass Dre and bully him at school. When Dre beats Cheng in the finals, he earns Cheng's respect both to him and to Mr. Han.

He helped to shape Daniel into an honorable man, husband, and father. Mr. Miyagi's impact on Daniel and those around him were lifelong, as his teachings were wise and impactful. He was also the sensei of the troubled Julie Pierce, who taught self-control and guided her through a difficult time in her life.
However, through unknown circumstances, this ending was removed from the finished film, which ends with Dre's victory, apparently because the fight sequence between Li and Han would have taken too much focus away from Dre's victory.
