Violence & Scariness. The main characters are ghosts and the entire film has an eerie mood. Plenty of scary/cartoonishly gory moments, such as a woman blowing cigarette smoke out of her slit throat. An afterlife waiting room holds people in various states of death, including states implying violent deaths.

This is a cute Halloween flick without too much gore. The issue is that the PG rating is too low for what the movie contains. It views more like a PG-13. While the Halloween violence is minimal, there are numerous sexual innuendos in this movie that are shocking for a movie that seems to be aimed for kids.
The first feature of Tim Burton is a delightful comedy, where he introduces a calling card of his dark style with nice characters in a very funny story, great make–up and special effects and a stunning and hilarious performance of Michael Keaton.

Feeling alone and betrayed again, Beetlejuice talks with his clones about how he wants to leave the house to finally connect with people now that he can be seen. To achieve this, he decides to trick Lydia into marrying him, which will allow him to roam free in the living world ("That Beautiful Sound" (reprise)).
They run the house and they are happy until Lydia discovers she may be able to see her mom again. Beetlejuice takes this as a rejection and manipulates the situation to trick Lydia into marrying him. Unlike the film, Lydia tricks him. She agrees to marry him then runs straight into the Neitherworld to find her mom.
