In his escape to LAX, Alonzo is surrounded by Russian hit-men who kill him. The final scene has Jake pulling into his driveway and going home to his wife, Lisa (Charlotte Ayanna), and daughter, while a radio broadcast describes Alonzo's death as occurring honorably while "serving a high-risk warrant near LAX."
At the very end of "Training Day," Alonzo goes out in a hail of bullets when the Russian mob catches up with him on the street. But it seems that some of the film's climactic action arose from a need to cater to the multiplex crowd.
Did Jake keep the money at the end of Training Day?
Jake takes the stolen cash to submit as evidence against Alonzo and the neighborhood gang allows him to leave safely. Enraged, Alonzo threatens to retaliate against the neighborhood but they ignore him and walk away. Alonzo flees for Los Angeles International Airport but he is ambushed and gunned down by the Russians.
Training Day's ultimate message is a powerful one: you may live as if the ends justify the means, but in the end, justice prevails. More than once, honesty and strong ethics save Jake's life.
And oh yeah, he hires a gang to murder Jake. Alonzo needs the money in order to square a debt with the Russian mafia after killing one of its members, but his many misdeeds eventually catch up to him.
Alonzo also manipulates his new student, going so far as to hold a gun to his head to get him to smoke drugs, which turns out to be a clever blackmail device later on.
Jake is indeed Internal Affairs acting on orders to get enough evidence to convict Alonzo and the "Three Wise Men", as well as, the rest of the crooked LAPD cops. The reason why Jake doesn't hand Alonzo over to the IA or FBI is because of what Alonzo has put Jake through.
Smiley then reveals to Jake that Alonzo has abandoned him, and explains Alonzo's situation: by midnight, Alonzo must pay $1 million to the Russian mob for killing one of their couriers in Las Vegas or be killed himself. Alonzo has paid Smiley to kill Jake.
Although a second season renewal was uncertain due to mediocre ratings, after the sudden death of Paxton on Feb. 25 from a stroke days after heart surgery, it became clear the 13 episode series would be canceled. Paxton and Cornwell had already taped all 13 episodes at the time of his death.
Training Day may have a somewhat basic storyline, but it still offers up a mostly-engaging look at its subject, with a pair of outstanding & compelling performances from its stars that give the film the extra oomph it needs. Training Day would not be the film it is without the gritty authenticity for its time.
Alonzo orders a group of three evil cops called "The Three Wise Men" to help him hire additional evil cops and Jake to kill Roger and get the money that both officers had confiscated from the LAPD many years earlier.
Jake refuses, but Alonzo puts a gun to his head and says Jake's failure to use drugs could get him killed by a street dealer. Jake relents and smokes the marijuana. Alonzo then tells him the marijuana was laced with PCP.
In L.A., Kyle and Frank interrogate Wallace about Leviathan and Billy Craig's murder. Wallace admits to killing Kyle's father because he was close to uncovering Leviathan, a group of corrupt police, drug cartels, and the CIA.
Dre, Training Day - Training Day will always be remembered for Denzel Washington's powerful performance, but there were a number of other performers of note in the film as well. In addition to artists like Snoop Dogg and Macy Gray, Dr.

Although initially not presented as an antagonist, Alonzo Harris (Denzel Washington) is the central antagonist and conflict for Jake Hoyt (Ethan Hawke). Alonzo has sunk to the opposite of his line of work in that he has not only corrupted himself but attempts to corrupt those around him.
In the 2001 film Training Day, Denzel Washington said he emulated the style of Rafael Pérez to give authenticity to his portrayal of corrupt LAPD cop Alonzo Harris. The character's vehicle has the license plate ORP 967, which is said to stand for Officer Rafael Pérez, born in 1967.
"I added things. I shouldn't say I improvised it from beginning to end, a monologue or whatever ... But I was sort of figuring it out as I went along." All in all, Washington said that about 30 or 40 percent of the speech was ad-libbed.
