Lasher is an ancient spirit and the source of the Mayfair witches' power. Each generation has a favorite, powerful witch designated by the emerald key necklace that binds Lasher to said witch.
Soon the mysterious man reveals himself to her: he is Lasher, a spirit with wicked motives who has plagued the Mayfairs for centuries. His wish is to be made flesh so that he may walk the earth again in the permanent physical form of a human being, and he sets about slowly seducing Rowan.
Rowan initially rejects her offspring/lover, but ultimately protects him from Cortland (Harry Hamlin), who was revealed to be her father through rape; and Cip, who planned to take the baby to his bosses at the nefarious Talamasca agency –– at least that's what he told them.
Rowan seemingly gave birth to Lasher with the spirit Suzanne's aid. The baby grew rapidly in size and ability within the first minutes of its life. As Suzanne (Hannah Alline) explained, Rowan could accept or deny him. If the former, she would be granted immense power.
The eponymous Lasher is a demon spirit who preys on female Mayfairs in his attempt to procreate. Rowan Mayfair, queen of the coven who has borne Lasher's child, has now disappeared.

How was Lasher born?
Lasher, born from Rowan, is another species altogether and now in the corporeal body, represents an incalcuable threat to the Mayfairs. Rowan and Lasher travel together to Houston and she becomes pregnant with another creature like him, a Taltos.

Meanwhile, in present day, Lasher discovers that Rowan is attempting to separate from him through a transference spell with the designee's blessings. And so, he agrees to leave peacefully, seemingly choosing Tessa as his new mate, though he warns Rowan there are risks to what she's doing.
