Jacen never knew Kanan, so he was happy that he had someone besides his mother to tell him about his father.
As a result, Ezra's return is particularly great news for Jacen and his future. Having been trained by Kanan, Ezra now has the opportunity to train Kanan's son, making Jacen his Padawan as he guides and teaches Syndulla how to harness the abilities he inherited from his father.
It may even be that Ezra will be the one to train Kanan and Hera's son Jacen in Ahsoka season 2, and pass down all the knowledge Ezra learned from Jacen's father in Star Wars Rebels.
Despite the absence of Jacen Syndulla in the initial episodes, his whereabouts and potential Force-sensitivity remain burning questions. Ahsoka's choice to train Sabine Wren instead of Jacen may be attributed to her personal growth and desire to guide Sabine down a different path than her own rebellious past.
And there is also little doubt that Jacen could be very talented in the Force and wielding a lightsaber. However, despite his potential in the Force, his attachment to his mother would prevent him from achieving his dream of becoming a Jedi.

Overall, analyzing Star Wars Rebels shows that Jacen Syndulla was conceived in the days before Kanan's death. Still, Kanan's legacy lives on within Jacen. Even though Hera has been reluctant to have Jacen train as a Jedi, that reluctance might change with the return of Ezra Bridger to the main Star Wars galaxy.
